Growing up I’ve always heard about how 40 acres and a mule were never given to my people and that promise was never realized. I see now that we are in no different time than people who are still in a fight for true justice. Not just because you control the power does not mean you administer proper justice. This is the fight America has a claim to have won but in actuality, we are still fighting for our right and proper justice as black people, African-Americans, Caribbeans, Morenos, Indians, or any darker-skinned people, continue to be exploited no matter what race or culture they are from. One of the most powerful reparations conversations are those that take into account the sacrifices taken by our black ancestors from Africa to the Americas.
H.R.40 – Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act has been introduced in The House of Representatives 01/03/2019, as a bill that establishes the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans. The commission shall examine slavery and discrimination in the colonies and the United States from 1619 to the present and recommend appropriate remedies. Among other requirements, the commission shall identify (1) the role of federal and state governments in supporting the institution of slavery, (2) forms of discrimination in the public and private sectors against freed slaves and their descendants, and (3) lingering negative effects of slavery on living African-Americans and society.
